Can a scar inside the eyelid irritate the eye?

Sometimes a small scar may temporarily rub against the eye surface, especially the CORNEA. This can cause mild irritation or a scratchy feeling while blinking, but symptoms usually improve as the tissue softens. There's a couple scenarios that this "scar tissue" could be. Is it normal to have a scar inside the eyelid after stye surgery?

Yes. During stye or chalazion surgery, the doctor typically makes a small incision on the inside eyelid to drain the blocked gland. This can create a small internal scar, which usually softens and becomes less noticeable as the eyelid heals.

How long does it take for an eyelid scar to heal?

Most internal eyelid scars improve within 4–8 weeks. The eyelid has an excellent blood supply, which allows tissue to heal faster than many other areas of the body.

How can I prevent another stye after surgery?

Surgery is not an eye care routine! It's just the beginning of it. Preventing new styes focuses on maintaining healthy eyelid hygiene and supporting the oil glands in the eyelid.

Helpful habits include:

• Regular eyelid cleansing

• Warm compress with Focused Eye Roll

• Avoiding eye rubbing

• Removing eye makeup thoroughly

These steps help keep the Meibomian Glands functioning properly.

 

When should I see my eye doctor?

Contact your doctor if you notice:

• Persistent pain

• Vision changes

• A growing lump inside the eyelid

• Continued irritation that does not improve
