Does Hypochlorous Acid Spray Help Treat Anterior Blepharitis? Optometrist Insight

Does HYPOCHLOROUS ACID Spray Actually Help ANTERIOR BLEPHARITIS?
ANTERIOR BLEPHARITIS is no fun. Red, crusty, irritated eyelash base accompanied by itching, dryness, burning, and/or blurry vision. One of my secret weapons for ANTERIOR BLEPH flare ups and maintenance is HYPOCHLOROUS ACID. Let’s explore how this gentle antimicrobial action can aid healing.

How HYPOCHLOROUS ACID Works on the Eyelid Margin
HYPOCHLOROUS ACID is a naturally occurring molecule in our immune system. It targets bacteria without disrupting healthy cells. Its pH-neutral formulation means it won’t sting or burn. When sprayed directly onto they eyelash area, it can break down biofilm and reduce microbial load. Over time, you’ll notice less crusting and fewer red patches.
Make Sure It Formulated For Eyes
There is HYPOCHLOROUS ACID to clean kitchen counters and then there is HYPOCHLOROUS ACID to clean the eyelids & eyelashes. Here you will definitely want to select for the latter because it's been safety tested for the eyes!!
Make Sure It's In a Spray Bottle
For my patients, I like the convenience and dispersing effect of a spray, rather than gel. Spray also allows my patients to spray and go right back to work without blurry vision.
A spray containing HYPOCHLOROUS ACID, such as Calm Hypochlorous Eyelid & Eyelash Cleansing Spray, delivers a light mist directly to the lash line. It loosens trapped oils and dissolves debris gently. You won’t need to scrub vigorously. Instead, the spray washes away particles that fuel inflammation.
Integrating the Spray into Your Daily Routine
Begin with clean hands. Hold the bottle about 6 inches from your closed eyes. Lightly mist the entire eyelid. This might take some practice, lol. You can wipe away the moisture, but my preference for patients is to let it air dry. Use as one of the steps in my ANTERIOR BLEPH CLEANSING SYSTEM and repeat during the day as needed. Consistency is key. Even small, daily steps can gradually calm irritation and remove that eyelash debris.

Complementary Practices for Lasting Relief
While HYPOCHLOROUS ACID addresses surface bacteria, combine it with Inbetween Eyelash Cleansing Brush for a deep cleanse to physically comb out that eyelash debris like I would in the exam room. Add Focused Eye Roll to soften eyelash gland secretions. Always do a final wash off with any of my foam cleansers of any eyelash debris so it does not accumulate or cross-contaminate (if bacteria is involved).
Anterior blepharitis thrives on bacterial overgrowth, trapped gland secretions, and even demodex mites. By using CALM HYPOCHLOROUS ACID spray, you create a cleaner environment. Within 7-10 days, you’ll see fewer flakes and less redness. Your eyes will feel calmer. And with repeated use, your eyelids restore balance with none of those terrible flare ups.
